Date: Wed, 9 Aug 2006 22:18:17 -0700 (PDT) From: Patty Bucaro Subject: Corner Life Chapter 2 I got absolutely nothing done on that note I was suppose to write to Alex! Karen's boyfriend called so she talked to him for a half hour while I was lost thinking about Alex. I'm still stuck on the reaction she gave off. Was the note really that shocking? I didn't go to school here when the whole Diane crisis happened. Apparently that's why no one talks to her anymore. No one really talked to her before that anyway Karen told me. They were scared of her to begin with, for what reason she has no idea. I don't understand why everyone is weary of her. Her curly hair and deep brown eyes are so innocent. Her best feature are those curves of hers, they're beautiful with the perfect roundness and all in the right places. If I was to guess I'd say she's only about 120 pounds, and for her height that's great. I've never stood up next to her but I guess she'd be taller. Damn, I really do have it bad for her. Jenny lied in her bed next to Karen while Karen slept soundly. She was not tired by any means, plus it was only 12 at night, an hour when Jenny was naturally awake. She was use to laying in her bed thinking about Alex before she fell asleep but with Karen there it felt too weird. She decided to get up and go downstairs for a little while to help her think better. As she crept down the plush carpet stairs she thought about whether or not she should have a snack. Food always made her feel better but even now she was too worried to eat. The thought of food made her stomach do a little flip flop. By the time she reached the bottom of the stairs and rounded the corner into the hallway towards the kitchen she decided on tea. She figured it would help relax her a little bit considering the situation. She put the hot water on and then took a seat on her stool at the counter. She carefully took out her sketch pad and pencil and just started drawing. Nothing in particular just doodles. While she doodled she thought about Alex and how nice it'd be to have her in the bed next to her instead of Karen. She would wrap her arms around Alex while taking in her scent and caress her soft arm up and down. Oh how soft that milky white skin would feel against her tan skin in contrast. She wanted so much to lay sweet kisses up and down her neck and give it little love bites. Just the thought of skin touching skin was enough to have Jenny's nipples hard and wetness in a certain place. She could feel her hands going through Alex's soft curls and giving her head sensual caresses. She could imagine being so intimate with Alex the fact that it could never happen killed her, or the fact that she had to keep it secret killed her even more. Jenny was completely lost in her dream world of all the wonderful intimacy she could have with Alex that she completely forgot about the water on the stove and suddenly she was snapped out of her sweet dream world to water over boiling. She immediately jumped up and took the pot off the burner and took a deep breath, then sat the pot down and smacked herself in the forehead. "You're so dumb Jenny. So so dumb." She said out loud to herself knowing that it would never happen no matter how many times she wished for it. *************************************************************** Alex woke up to the slam of a door. She heard scampering little feet on her wood floor and then saw big eyes in front of her. It was her younger brother Daniel. "Get in little guy." She said with relief and flipped open her blanket and wrapped it around him. He cuddled up to his sister and let out a sigh of relief and quickly fell asleep. Alex wrapped her arm around him and gave him a quick kiss on his forehead. This wasn't a new occurrence. Ever since the fighting between their parents started becoming worse and worse her younger brother Daniel came into her bed in the middle of the night due to bad dreams. He was barely even 6. There was no reason he should have to deal with this. Although, she had been dealing with this since she was 5 years old. It still wasn't fair for Danny though. All she could hope was that Daniel wouldn't turn out as messed up as she had. Alex gave her brother and extra squeeze and then drifted back off into her dream world. The next morning Alex woke up to her brother Daniel sprawled out in her bed dead asleep with the most innocent face. She stood up in her bed and jumped over him out of her bed onto the carpet floor and raised her arms up in victory giving herself a silent `and the crowd goes wild'. Before she made her way to the bathroom she gently and carefully pulled the covers back over her brother. Closing the bathroom door she tried to wipe the sleep from her eyes vigorously. She sat down and let her bladder run freely in relief. She started to gain actual consciousness as she heard light knocks on the door from her mother. Alex hurried up and left the bathroom to her bruised eye mother. She shook her head in disbelief as to why her mother would put up with that man, but of course it wasn't her say. She just had to be subjected to the fighting that went on day in and day out. Alex went back into her sun lit room and woke her brother up gently. She planned on taking him out today to get out of the house. It was a nice morning and figured an early start would be a good idea. Daniel woke up after a few whispers and shakes and went to the bathroom. Alex then made her bed and changed quickly. By the time her brother came back into her room she was done brushing her hair and was now set to getting his clothes out. "Well morning sleepy head." "Morning..." She left him in her room to figure out how to put everything on while she went into the bathroom to brush her teeth. As she brushed her teeth she wondered about where they'd go. Probably go to the diner and the park afterwards. Then she decided that a visit to the bike store would be necessary because Daniel wasn't going to fit in that bike seat forever. After she finished there she went back to her room to find a confused Daniel. He simply couldn't figure out the right side that was the front of his t-shirt. Alex helped him out then grabbed her wallet and they were out the door. There father was at the kitchen table but he didn't even notice them, he was too absorbed into his newspaper. She closed the door and they were officially free from the mad house for a few hours. "So where would you like to eat this morning?" Daniel yawned and said he didn't care much. Alex nodded and made sure he was all buckled into the bike seat and then peddled off to the diner where they went most Saturday mornings. She still couldn't believe how nice of a morning it was. The sun was out and it wasn't too hot. The leaves were beautifully colored since it was autumn. The air was cool and crisp. A perfect morning by all means outside of her house. ************************************************************ Jenny walked outside her door in a sluggish pace to retrieve the newspaper and had to do the wildest double take ever. WAS THAT ALEX??? No way! Oh my god, it IS Alex! There's some little kid on the back of that bike though. I didn't know she had a little brother. I wonder where they're heading. "Jenny, the newspaper dear!" "Yes mother!" Jenny yelled back. Jenny walked into the kitchen with a more an awake pace which her mother caught onto immediately. "And what are you so uppity about this early in the morning?" Jenny looked at her and gave her a grunt and walked into the kitchen area. Jenny glanced up at the clock and noticed it was 10 am already. She grabbed the cereal off the top of the fridge and sat it on the counter. Opened the fridge and sat the milk on the counter as well. She bounced over to the cabinet and pulled out her bowl of choice and snagged a spoon from the drawer. Jenny couldn't place her new found energy but she was happy. She bundled everything up in her arms and made her way carefully to the counter where her stool was. She sat down and poured her cereal then her milk and started to munch. Her mother looked over at her quizzically. This was a first that Jenny was so pleasant this early in the morning, especially on a Saturday. Jenny's mom walked over and from the other side of the counter passed the sports and comics section to her daughter. "Are you sure you're ok!?" "Yes mom." Jenny didn't snap this at her mom like she usually does but instead just said it with and equal tone. Jenny flipped the sports section and ate with her favorite song in mind. Her current favorite was Gonna Stick Wit You by Pussycat Dolls. She read over the black print and found nothing interesting at all. Then she stopped eating a second and opened up to her favorite comic strip Get Fuzzy and started to giggle at the scene drawn before her. She quickly finished her cereal and put everything away. She was up the stairs in a heart beat to find clothes and to take a nice shower. When she entered her room she found a sleeping Karen in her bed. Jenny let out a loud sigh and walked over to her friend and started poking her. When the poking didn't wake her Jenny jumped on Karen and straddled her body and started shaking her viciously. "WAKE UP KAREN!!!!!!" She screamed. "Ughhhhhh. What Jenny? What time is it?" Karen glanced over at the clock. "What the fuck Jenny let me fucking sleep!" With that said Karen pushed Jenny off and rolled back over to fall asleep. "Jeez, well fuck you too then!" Jenny grabbed her clothes and headed to the shower. She turned the water on and adjusted it to the perfect temperature. She thought about how weird it was that two people could be in two completely different moods. She peered out the window in the bathroom as she undressed and noticed how great of a day it was. She decided on a quick shower so she could get outside and be apart of the beautiful day as soon as possible. Taking the shampoo in hand she lathered her hair up giving it a few scrubs and rinsed it quickly from her cropped blonde hair. She then quickly finished washing her body and hopped out of the shower. Gave herself a quick dry and put her clothes on. "Oh man gotta hurry!" She said out loud to herself. Even though she didn't have anywhere to be she just wanted to be free from her house and clear her mind.. Jenny wrote up a quick note for Karen and left it on Karen's school bag. She then grabbed her wallet and keys and was off. Before leaving she yelled to her mom that she was leaving and closed the door. "Yes! I finally made it! Now, where to go." She got into her Audi Q7 that she got for her birthday this year when she turned 17 and pulled out of the drive way. She put all the windows down and turned her Tegan and Sara CD up. She moved in rhythm to the beat and tapped on her steering wheel. Thoughts of where to go were racing through her mind. I could go get something to eat but I'm not really hungry. The driving range might be fun but not by myself and dad has the country club card. The shore? Maybe, I have all my stuff with me. Karen would get mad if I went without her though. Jenny drove by the park and instantly decided that's where she wanted to go. She saw the children and families playing and having a great time. She wanted to be apart of it. Jenny turned onto the next street and parked her car. She grabbed her messenger bag with necessities such as i-pod, sketch book, and camera. Jenny took in the warm but still cool sweet scent of the day. The air smelled so much better in the park with all the trees, grass and flowers. Jenny loved coming here to get her thoughts in order and draw. Finding a nice place in the grass she sat down and then kicked back in the grass and looked up into the tree. She noticed a little orange bird in the tree. The bird looked so happy, he was jumping and flitting around with another orange bird. Jenny sighed and sat up. How she wished Alex could be her other orange bird. ********************************************************* Alex was sitting on a bench in the park watching Daniel play on the seesaw with his friend Timmy. Alex's mind drifted off to what happened yesterday. I still can't believe I got a note from that girl. Her blue green eyes were so entrancing, they caught me instantly making my heart start to race. I just really don't understand at all why a rich popular girl like her would want to sit with me. What if she wanted to talk to me? What would I say? Maybe she just wants help on her math or wants me to do it for her. Karen cheats off my tests enough I bet she'll do the same. They seem like close buddies. Alex looked around and noticed couples walking in the park and it reminded her of wonderful memories turned horrible. All the time she use to walk around here with her ex-girlfriend Abby. It wasn't so bad that Abby had to move away and they broke up. It was what she found out about Abby and the fact that she didn't care anymore about her after the break up. All the horrible events after the break and her moving away. She could never forgive her. `How could I have not seen it?' was all Alex could think. After the break Abby stopped speaking to Alex. She wouldn't take her calls even if Alex left a million voice messages. Her mind traveled back to last year. One day Alex was talking with her one and only friend at the time, Diane. It was during lunch and Diane was acting very strange. There was never a moment when she wasn't talking about something and now she was very quiet. "Diane, please tell me what's going on?" "I can't Alex. I feel so bad just remembering it." Diane tried to get up and walk away from where they were sitting under the old willow tree but Alex got up as well and stood right in front of her. "Tell me now. Why are you holding out on me? You tell me everything! Don't let this be different!" Alex and Diane were very close. Diane was who Alex came out to first and helped set her up with Abby. When ever something happened they couldn't wait to tell the other one. If they weren't together they were either texting on their cell phones or asking their parents if they could go over to one or the other houses. "You'll be so mad with me though. It's probably better you didn't know." "Well now that you say that you have to tell me. Diane, you can tell me anything." Diane sat down and let out a great sigh. "Sit down Alex please." Alex sat down with a concern look on her face and took Diane's hands in hers. She waited patiently for Diane to collect her thoughts. "I really don't know how to tell you this Alex." Diane looked up into Alex's soft brown eyes and saw the concern and love she always found in her eyes. She couldn't bare to know that this probably meant the end of their friendship. She looked down and began what she had to say. "Alex, about 2 weeks before Abby left, while you were going out with her still, well, we," she let out another sigh and continued, "she invited me over to her house to talk. Talking wasn't exactly what we did though. Abby came onto me very strongly and well, I couldn't resist. She said that you never really satisfied her so she came to me for satisfaction. I didn't know what to say. She kissed me and it all started from there. Afterwards I felt so bad you have no idea. I've cried every night and I've been trying to tell you since the day after it happened. I know you'll hate me forever. I just wish you wouldn't..." With that said she tired to look up at Alex but was scared of what she might see. She expected anger and hatred. Alex had tears in her eyes. She swallowed her tears and absorbed everything her best friend just said to her. Then an inevitable wave of anger hit her. "DIANE HOW COULD YOU DO THAT!?" Alex stood up and turned to walk away, but then she turned back and looked down at Diane and spoke, "I WISH YOU'D JUST DIE!" and with that said she walked away from Diane and was to never look or speak to her again. As soon as Diane got home that day she committed suicide. Daniel came over to the bench where Alex was sitting and sat next to her. She gathered her self back together while wiping away a lone tear from her cheek and looked down at her brother. "Are you ready little guy?" "Yeah, Timmy had to leave. We played in the sandbox though and I got some sand in my sneakers." "Jeez Danny, take them off and lets get it out!" Daniel stuck out his tongue and tugged his sneakers off and wiggled his socked feet at his sister. Alex pushed his feet away and slapped his sneaker up against her hand knocking out all the sand forcefully. She looked up at Daniel and handed him his sneaker and grabbed the other one from him. Then she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her. She thought she just saw the girl over Daniel's shoulder! Oh my god, that is her! It is, there is no doubt at all. She's just laying there looking so relaxed. I wonder if I should go over there. Wait, what am I thinking? I can't go over there no way no way! Daniel was looking at his sister completely puzzled. He turned around and looked over where she was looking. "It's just a girl Alex, what's so special about her?" Alex came out of her trance, "Nothing Daniel." With that said she took his other sneaker, got the sand out and made sure the right sneakers were on the right feet. "Lets swing!" Daniel got up and ran over to the swing set and tried to swing himself but it didn't work. Alex let out a laugh. "Watch me and try to do what I do." She sat on the swing and kicked off. Daniel tried to do the same but he couldn't figure it out. Alex let out another laugh and jumped off her swing. She grabbed the two chains on the sides and pulled way back and ran full speed forward giving Daniel an under doggy. Daniel was happy as can be and was laughing hysterically. "Higher Alex higher!" If Alex pushed him higher he'd do a loop over the bar. She gave him one last push and then sat on her swing. Then her mind wandered and questioned if the girl was still over there. She was scared to look over for unknown reasons but then she looked over and noticed the girl looking straight at her. "Oh Shit!" Alex blushed and turned away and then looked back. The girl was walking towards her and Alex had no clue what to do so she started to swing. Fuck she's coming over here. Just swing Alex just swing. The girl approached quickly and then was by her side looking down at her. "Hey Alex, um, did you, um, get my note?" Alex looked up to a fidgeting girl unsure about what she was doing. "Yes I did, uh, why?" "I'm sorry this must be very awkward." "Yeah a little. Who are you?" "Oh shit, sorry. It's Jenny." Jenny extended a very shaky hand to Alex. Alex in return with her shaky hand shook Jenny's lightly. A very awkward pause took over and both girls were very unsure of what to do next. Alex looked down at her feet and took a deep breath to help calm herself. She then looked back up at Jenny and was taken by surprise how beautiful she was. Seeing the sun's light shine through her eyes at a side angle made them look a very pale greenish blue which went very well with her cropped blonde hair. All she knew is that she wanted to be close to this girl and didn't want her to get away. "Would you like to swing with us?" Alex croaked out. "That would be awesome." Jenny took a seat on the swing next to Alex and gave a push off. "So, who's the little boy?" "I'm Daniel, Alex's brother." He said with a proud smile. "Nice to meet you Daniel I'm Jenny." Jenny gave him a big smile and gave herself another push off on the swing. "Are you a friend of my sister's?" Jenny looked over at Alex not knowing what to say. Alex thought about it for a second and just gave a nod. "Yes I am." "Can you give under doggies?" Daniel inquired with hope. "Um, yeah." "Yay! Then you can give me one!" He yelled with glee. He got himself ready as Jenny hopped off her swing and posed herself behind him. She counted out to three as she back up and sprinted forward allowing him to go up and over her head. Letting out a loud laugh he was all smiles. "Daniel we're gonna go sit right under the tree. Come to us if you need us." "Okay sis!" Alex motioned for Jenny to join her under the huge oak tree. Taking her seat she noticed Jenny slip off her messenger bag and put it on the ground and in one swift movement Jenny joined her on the ground. There was an awkward silence between both of them. Alex was the first to speak. "You know who I am right?" "Yeah, you're Alex." Jenny was unsure about where this was leading. "Well, that's my name but you don't know who I am. I'm the girl that no one pays attention to. The girl everyone leaves alone and lets go by unnoticed except in gym class when I can't hit the ball and strike out. So why are you of all people noticing and giving me notes in class? Why do you want to talk to me? Do you want to cheat off my math homework or something? Well if you want to too bad!" Alex just ranted this off and Jenny sat there just shaking her head at all of what she was saying. Alex was beyond confusion as to what this girl could want of her. "None of thee above. I'm sorry if you don't want to talk to me, but I do want to talk to you." " Oh I noticed, but why?" "Why the fuck not? Do you have herpes or something? I don't think so, and if you did well I don't care. I'm just," Jenny let out a long sigh, "I just want to get to know you and possibly be friends with you. Can't you understand that?" Alex didn't understand any of it. She couldn't grasp why Jenny wanted to talk to her and then she remembered. Jenny didn't know about the Diane incident. She didn't go to their school at the time. Should she tell her and steer away a possible friend, or just let it be? "Yeah, I guess I can understand it." She let out finally and just stared up into the tree. "Great so are you busy?" "Well," she looked over at Daniel and Jenny got the hint. Quickly Jenny reached into her bag and ripped off a piece of paper from her sketch book. She jotted some things down and handed it to Alex. "Here, this is my cell number and my screen name. Call me or IM me sometime ok?" "Sure..." Alex looked down at the paper and read her screen name, LLax789X. She knew the Lax part but everything else she didn't know what it stood for. When Alex looked up at Jenny she was already up and offering Alex a hand up. Alex took the hand up and patted the dirt of her pants. "I'll see yah later Alex!" And with that said Jenny took off. "Oh, BYE!" Alex yelled hoping she heard her. ******************************************************************** Oh my GOD! What the fuck did I just do!? Gotta start breathing though. Jenny ran as fast as she could from Alex after she said good bye. She got to her car and did the hand motion of slipping her bag off her shoulder but there wasn't a strap to hold on to. Slapping her head she remembered that she left it by the tree where she was sitting with Alex. She couldn't just leave it because it had all of her sketches, cell phone, i-pod, camera, ect.! She slammed her car door shut and started to trudge her way back to the tree. While cursing under her breath she approached the tree and saw it laying there. She also saw Alex had something in her hand. It was her sketch book! Jenny sprinted from where she was and grabbed the sketch book from Alex's hands. There were a few drawings in there she did not want Alex seeing. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you didn't like people looking at your sketches. They're very nice." "Thank you and yes I am a little sensitive about them. My friends don't care about my drawing anyway." "Oh, they're awesome, do you take art?" "Nah, I never took it. I just draw on my own." "I liked the one you did of the woman, it was so life like. Daniel was excited about the one of Mickey Mouse." Jenny did a whole body blush at the woman comment. She tucked her sketch book away in her bag and slipped the strap over her head onto her shoulder. While checking for her i-pod camera and such she sat down. "So do you come to this park often?" "Yeah, I guess so, Daniel likes to come here." She watched Alex as she ran her hands over her hair and pushed it back off her shoulders. She wanted so bad to reach out and caress her face, run her fingers over her beauty marks on her cheeks and neck. Jenny felt herself going red again so she spoke. "Well, that's cool. I come here when I get bored and want to get away from my friend Karen. She gets to be a real pain occasionally." Jenny scooted into the shade but really was using that as a reason to be closer to Alex. While kicking back she folded her arms behind her head, "You know, if Karen ever learned to listen instead of talk I think I could tolerate her more. She just really gets on my nerves sometimes yah know?" "Yeah for sure..." "Oh, I'm sorry you really don't need to listen to me go on about this." "Please go on!." Alex lied on her stomach cupping her face in her hands with her elbows supporting, "I'd like to hear about it." Alex gave Jenny a killer smile and she almost lost it there. She wanted to kiss that girl right on the lips and let her feel the passion she had for her. Jenny let out a sigh and kept on, "Well, for example, she spent the night at my house last night and all she did was talk about her boy friend. I mean for 3 hours straight! I wasn't even able to zone out cause she kept on asking me questions and for my opinion. So I had to actually pay fucking attention. It felt like English class listening to the teacher's lecture and then having to get graded on what you thought or how you interpreted it. Horrible." With that said Jenny looked up at the clouds and felt like she was in those white puffy clouds, just in her own world with Alex. She glanced over towards her and noticed that she was looking right into her. Jenny felt her blood rush a second and then turned her attention back to the clouds, "Ever wish you could just float away like the clouds and mold yourself into any shape or figure?" "Heh, all the time. I think it'd be fun." Alex turned onto her back rolling next to Jenny and looked at the clouds, "I just want to cuddle into them." She made a cuddle motion with her arms into her face and looked into Jenny's eyes, "Don't you think they'd make the best bed set ever?" Alex gave Jenny this killer look, she looked so cute! All Jenny could do was nod and look back up at the clouds again. Jenny made another attempt at spending time with Alex, "Are you busy tonight?" "Not really, why?" "Cause, I don't feel like spending another night with Karen, do you want to hit a movie or something?" "I need to ask my mom but sure." Jenny rolled over on her side and grabbed her cell phone and tossed it over to Alex. "Give her a call." "Oh, that's okay I have to go home anyway. I rode bike here and everything and plus Daniel. I don't want to waste your cell phone minutes." Jenny thought about it and a brilliant plan played out in her head. "Here, I can put your bike in the back of my car and give you guys a lift," she pointed over to her Audi, "it really won't be a problem at all. Then you can do what ever you have to do and me the same. Then I can pick you up what ever time tonight?" She watched as Alex comprehended everything and give it another once over. "Yeah that sounds great." Alex walked over to Daniel and all Jenny could think of was how great tonight was going to be. ________________________________________________________________ Yes another cliff hanger I know.
