From CH8:

"I SAID HE MADE HIS CHOICE, JEN! I gave him a choice and he made it." Craig screamed at her.

"Oh no you, oh big man BIG MAN!" Jen shot back at him, backing away slowly.

"Jen?"

"Don't come upstairs, I mean it" Jen told him fastening her dressing gown "I don't want to look at you"

"Jen please I am not going to be humiliated by a bunch of fags," Craig said trying to show her, trying to reason with her.

"Oh don't want to be humiliated by fags? Well I got news for you big man, you already have been".

"HIS DAD WHAT!" Rose shouted, shocked at what Chris had just told her "no wait, I don't want to hear it again; I'm still disgusted from the first time. If there's Anything I Can't Stand it's a homophobic asshole"

"So is it ok if Ryan stays here? Well lives here actually" Chris asked his mother, worried Ryan would have no place to go.

"Of course he can, I'd be happy to have you Ryan. BUT there are some rules in this house. Everyone chips in with the chores, be home from the gay bars at 3 in the mornings at the latest, no loud fucking, homework done when you get back from school ok?"

"Ok," Ryan said smiling.

"Now Chris, your dad and me are going out for a meal and a movie tonight, so you two have a night to yourselves. I'll leave you some money for a takeaway. Ok honey?" Rose asked Chris. Pulling on her finest coat, which looked lovely with her red silk dress and diamond necklace, she put a £20 note on the kitchen counter.

"Sure mom, I'm sure we'll find some way to entertain ourselves," Chris answered wrapping his arms around Ryan's waist.

"No sex without safe sex" Rose said nonchalantly, reaching into her handbag and putting a pack of 12 condoms on the kitchen counter "you know, just leave me and your father some for when we get back" Rose swept out of the room, her perfume leaving a pleasant smell of lavender and jasmine.

"Now Mr. Ryan, shall we go out clubbing, or shall we stay in?" Chris asked picking up the £20 note.

"Why don't we stay in? Order a Chinese and watch a movie?" Ryan said loosely taking a pencil and twisting his hair into a bun and pinning it up.

"Anything for you" Chris said picking up the phone and dialling the number for "Sunrise Delivery" and making an order.

It was supposed to be a Beautiful Night...drag queens should have been on stage singing. Lesbians should have been chatting up the barmaids...and gays should have been clapping after the performance. But at Half past ten that night a fire came to Club Babylon bringing with it unbelievable destruction. No one could have anticipated it...especially given how the day started.

"Jen, it's easy you take their order, give it to the cooks, ring the bell and take their food to em" Rose said explaining briefly the outlines of waitressing at the diner. Betty was off with the mumps and Rose was desperate.

"Sure" Jen said, grabbing a pad and paper and swinging her body from table to table taking orders in lighting speed. "Carlos, 2 eggs and bacon, plate of fries on the side with 2 diet cokes please." Jen said slamming the order down and ringing the bell.

"She catches on quick," Rose smiled, slightly proud of her training she had given Jen just 2 hours earlier.

"Hey mum," Ryan said coming into the diner, and sitting at the counter.

"Hey Honey, where's Chris?" Jennifer said balancing 2 plates and 2 glasses.

"He's parking the car, mum... I'm sorry about you and dad I didn't mean to cause so much trouble," Ryan said, putting a hand on his mother's shoulder generally sorry for all the trouble he had caused, Jennifer had hired a lawyer to divorce her from Craig.

"Ryan it's not your fault, your father and I have been unhappy for a while. I guess him not being able to accept his own son, showed me exactly what kind of a man he was. Good riddance to bad rubbish." Jen said, before coming out from behind the counter to start dishing out everyone's orders.

"So Snow White what'll it be?" Rose asked Ryan emerging from the kitchen, taking a pencil from behind her ear and getting her notepad ready to take down his order.

"Snow White?" Chris questioned, suddenly emerging from the doorway and sitting beside Rye.

"Well sure, it makes sense doesn't it? He's got dark hair, pale skin and rose red lips kind of screams `SNOW WHITE' dontcha think?' Rose responded shaking her head slight `so what'll it be?'

`Nothing, we just came to pick up our tickets,' Chris said nonchalantly.

"Oh ok,' Rose said, digging into her skirt pocket and producing two tickets laced in gold paper.

"Ryan's performing you heard mum? They caught him singing the other day and asked him, me and the guys are performing too." Chris said, referring to himself and his band `Midnight Sin', he poured himself a coffee & sipped it, the strong liquid searing his dry throat.

`We better get going, we're going to be late for rehearsal's' Ryan said standing and pulling his scarf tightly around his neck to protect him from the bitter winter winds.

"WAIT!" Rose said, before vanishing into the kitchen, two minutes later she came out with two pink cardboard boxes, no doubt filled with doughnuts, muffins and croissants and 2 cups of steaming hot tea. Made to perfection. " The tea is for you too and the food is for you too and everyone, in-case you get hungry." Rose said handing them over to Chris, his strong-arms easily balancing everything.

"Thanks Mum"

"Thanks Rose, see ya mum" Ryan said, waving to his mum before holding the door open for Chris, who sucked in air sharply as the winter tempests hit his face.

"The Concert will me good tonight, well I better get by ass in gear we got loads of customers' Jen said, as she dried some wet plates.

Sadly, this was not to be. In 10 short hours one of these women would lose a husband, and one of these boys would lose a father and all of them would lose a friend. But how could they have known this? It was supposed to be a Beautiful Night.

"Hey guys. My Mum sent some food in case anyone's hungry" Chris said laying down the bags of food, to which everyone hopped off the stage and ran for hungrily.

Babylon had be transformed from a hoping, bumping nightclub into a winter wonderland, icicles hung gracefully from the ceiling and fake soft snow adorned the floor, the windows had been coated with spray on snow and real pine trees, with glitter and yet more fake snow lined the walls, it reminded Chris a lot like the Forest in Narnia `The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe'

"Hey Chris, tell your mum she's a fucking great cook!" Billy said, his mouth full of half-chewed croissant.

"OK EMMA CALM DOWN!" Natalie screamed at one of her friends, it was 5 minutes until the curtain went up for the winter Concert and Emma, a small stick like girl who was supposed to open the show with her violin had started panicking.

Natalie French wasn't an amazingly beautiful woman, but she wasn't ugly by a long shot, her sleek black hair had been pulled into a perfect ponytail that hung loosely over her right shoulder. Her slender frame was draped in red silk that flung itself down to her knees, little spats of glitter cascaded onto the dress.

Emma gently trotted away, taking her place in the right wing of the stage, gently tuning her violin she sighed, someone letting out all of her stress and tension into her violin, which she was planning on playing the shit out of.

"Good Luck Emma, I know you'll be fabulous," Ryan gently said to Emma, his long dark hair had been swept into a boyish ponytail and he was wearing a black suit with a pearl white shirt underneath. There was something so warm and comforting about his smile that made Emma, smile too. Suddenly she had all the confidences in the world. Ryan had this effect on everyone; the easy confidence of his smile, gently grace of his hands and the warm refinement in his voice settled even the most tremendous Pains.

The Theme to Desperate Housewives rang backstage as Ryan's phone vibrated and squealed. He quickly opened the text he had received; just to get the phone to shut up. It was from Chris.

"SORRY SWEETIE MIGHT BE A LITTLE LATE. TRAFFICS A BLOOD NIGHTMARE. CHRIS XXX"

Ryan sighed, he had wanted Chris to see and hear him sing. But traffic couldn't be helped, so Ryan quickly adjusted his perfect composure and forgave Chris silently in his heart. Traffic couldn't be helped. Ryan's mum and Chris' mum and dad were in the front row. Ryan had reserved seats for them.

As the curtain went up Emma's violin sang throughout the club, the hauntingly beautiful sound filling everyone's ears, but the bright light coming from behind the bar stung their eyes. The next thing Ryan knew was just black, darkness.

"Jesus Christ, what the fuck was that?" Chris said, his face turning incredibly pale as a loud bang rang through the streets, everyone on the street stopping and listening. The bang had cut through everything, every sound, every action, every though and feeling. Chris pulled out his cell phone, and dialled Ryan's number frantically, he knew Ryan wasn't on stage for another half an hour, and Ryan never switched his phone off, but then why had the phone said `Sorry the number you are trying to contact is out of service'. Slamming down the phone Chris put his foot down on the gas his dad's car speeding towards the club. He knew that everyone he held dear was inside that club something had to be wrong.

The journey was short and easy, his dad's car charging through traffic like a great stallion. When Chris finally reached the club, his soul sank to the pit of his heart and his head began to spin.

Babylon was ablaze, the entire left side of the building was just a pile of raw burnt brick, and the main dance room was about to collapse, the fire quickly spreading between different floors, like a scene from a movie, a dreadful gone-too-far action movie where nobody survived. Thankfully, this was not the case at the Bar, most of the people had been rescued from the building, all screaming, blood issuing
forth from various cuts and scrapes, covered from head to foot in thick black soot, the people looked like miners rather then just normal people, taking part in a Beautiful night.

Chris's head began to spin, as he looked frantically around for anyone he recognised, and at last he found someone, JENNIFER! She was huddled under a fireman's blanket being comforted by some drag queen whose wig had been singed.

`Jennifer! Jennifer!' Chris ran over to her `Oh my god are you alright?'

'Chris oh thank god, I'm fine,' Jen was talking incredibly fast, `But Ryan's still in there. You have to go find him.' Jen looked petrified. Chris didn't need any further instruction as soon as he heard `Ryan's still in there,' he had started to run towards the door, pushing his way past a fireman he enter the inside of the building. Into the belly of the beast as it were.

The whole club was decimated, strong iron beams hung loosely from the ceiling, while others clung to the floor, dust was everywhere and the balcony over looking the entire club, had given way and was half hanging away from the wall, the air was thick with dirt and the strong stench of fresh blood, which lavishly laced the floor, like icing on a cake.

"We need you to leave the building all those who are able, please leave the building" A fireman shouted, waving his arms in the direction of the door as about 6 more people made their way out, each looking worse then the one that came before.

A fireman's torch flashed through the dust and hit him, the light cascaded onto Ryan's face as he crouched underneath a beam and stood up, the entire right side of his ace covered in blood, his hair a mess and his white shirt stained, Ryan leant back down and took Chris's mother by the hand and started leading her to the exit.

Chris ran over to them both, taking them both in his arms, he started to guide them outside. Two paramedics immediately rushed to Rose and Ryan, Chris kept both of them close gently stroking Ryan's back and holding his mother's hand.

"Oh god, I was so scared I lost you, Rye I love you," Chris gently whispered into Ryan's ear, the paramedics had prodded and probed, and gave Ryan a clean bill of health.

A blood curdling scream ran through the crowd, Chris' mother stood
their screaming, as the fireman pulled her husband out of the rubble, looking near death. The paramedics took it from there and quickly took him away in the ambulance. The crowd grew silent; the sirens squealed no more. The stillness of the shock hit them all.
