Disclaimer: I don't know Jake Gyllenhaal, nor do I claim to know his sexuality, preferences or relationshop status. What he does is his business, no one elses. This work is entirely fiction. Chapter 28: Wandering about the depths of the new lab, Chris was amazed to see how ill equipped this place was. "It's no wonder they shoved most people down to San Diego." He muttered to himself as he saw some of the ancient lab equipment. Heading back to his dank office, Chris took a seat in the faded chair and contemplated what to eat for lunch. It was getting late in the day, and if he didn't eat something soon, then he would either be extremely hungry at dinner time, or worse, if he did eat something later, he might not be able to eat what Jake was making. As he spun around and pulled the ugly blinds open, Chris noticed the phone was blinking. Obviously, the previous tenant left the phone on silent. Picking it up, Chris answered, "Hello? Chris Salter speaking." "Hi Chris, you have a visitor. Shall I bring them to your office?" Chris smiled, only a few people knew where he now working. Realizing he still hadn't replied to the receptionist, Chris spoke up. "Uh yeah, that's fine. Thank you." A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door. Spinning the chair around, Chris yelled out, "Come in!" As the ugly pine door opened, Chris practically beamed with glee as he saw who it was. After jumping up quickly to hold the door open, he dismissed the receptionist before slamming the door shut. Now alone, Chris grabbed the box out of Jakes hands and immediately wrapped his arms around the man he loved. "Thank god you're here." Jake laughed as Chris pounced on him. Moving his head slightly, he gently brushed his lips over Chris' before finally speaking. "I thought I'd come see how you were doing." He then looked down at the box, "I brought lunch too." "Awww, aren't you the best boyfriend in the world." Chris gushed. Taking a look around the sparsely decorated office, he tried to find somewhere where they could both sit. Unable to find a second chair on in the room Chris sighed, "I guess it's the floor, unless you want to share this chair. But it looks like it will fall apart." Grabbing the box from the desk, Jake followed Chris to the floor near the window and sat down, sitting in the middle of the floor, with Chris sitting opposite him in the sunlight. "Hope you like it." Jake whispered as he grabbed the paper bag out of the box. "What have we got here?" Chris asked, taking the bag out of Jakes hand. Jake shrugged and gently extended his hand to rub Chris' leg. "Sushi, I got it from that place where you choked." Looking up to see Chris glaring at him, Jake suddenly began laughing. "Trying to make me choke again are you?" Chris asked, continuing to glare at Jake. "I suppose you want to be my Prince Charming again, right?" Flashing his immaculate teeth at Chris, Jake responded, "Yeah, something like that. I love being the one looking after you all the time." Beginning to peel the plastic away from the sushi, Jake grabbed the chopsticks and picked up a piece. Chris watched as Jake masterfully picked up the food with the chopsticks before, he too, pulled the plastic from the container and grabbed his own chopsticks. "Come here," Jake whispered as he indicated for Chris to move closer to his body. Once he had, Jake grabbed another piece of sushi and directed it towards Chris' mouth. "Let me know what you think." Closing his eyes, imagining the revolting fish flavor that was to come, Chris surrendered and opened his mouth, allowing the food to enter. He chewed briefly for a moment before swallowing. "Not that bad I guess." Jake smirked, "It's chicken, the same as yours." He then blushed, "I just wanted to do that." Almost immediately, Chris sat up on his knees, placed the sushi container on the ground and leaned over to kiss Jake. "You're such a cute dork." Pulling the chopsticks out of Jakes hand, he placed them on the container on the ground before gently pushing Jakes back to the floor. Allowing his tongue to explore his lover's mouth, Chris ran his fingers gently down Jakes cheek, around his left ear and then along the stubbly jaw line. Breaking the kiss briefly, Jake joked, "I've become my worst nightmare." "How so?" Chris asked, finally getting off Jakes body and taking his original seating position. "Well," Jake replied. "Someone who can't keep it in his pants." He then blushed and grabbed the sushi container once more. "I guess you have that effect on me." Chris blushed, "I think you have that effect on me too." He then conceded, "I guess I didn't even notice the revolting carpet. Pushing himself back so he was leaning on the wall, Chris patted the ground next to him, motioning for Jake to sidle up next to him. Dragging his meal along with him, Jake leaned back against the wall and immediately put his arm around Chris, pulling him close. "What time do you think you will be home tonight?" Shifting his head from Jakes shoulder, Chris stared into his steel blue eyes and gushed, "I love that." "What?" Jake asked as he pulled Chris closer. "You keep referring to my place as home." Chris responded softly as rested his head on Jakes shoulder once more. "It's so cute. I love it." Jake smiled, "I guess I do think of it as home. My place is just a house, but when I'm at your place I feel like I can be myself." Looking down at Chris' hand, Jake lightly grabbed it and spun the ring pieces around. "You're so cute with that." After kissing Chris again, he finally asked again, "When will you be home?" Calculating his estimated travel time, Chris replied, "I don't know, probably about 6, will you be there?" Sighing on Jakes shoulder, Chris conceded, "I'm sorry I couldn't get the day off. We probably could have gone to a Labor Day party or something." "I need to do some stuff after this; I should be back by 9." Jake continued as he admired Chris' ring further. "It's fine about today, there's always other holidays." "Thanks," Chris whispered as he kissed Jake. After using the wall to bring himself to his feet, Chris extended his hand to pull Jake up before grabbing the box and sticking it on the table. "I should make this place a bit more respectable I guess." Pulling Chris into his arms quickly, Jake kissed behind his ear and whispered, "I'd better get going then." He then twirled Chris around before kissing him again. "I'll see you tonight." "Oh okay, did you want me to try and show you out?" Chris commented as he reveled in the feeling of Jakes beard as his lips pressed on his cheek. Jake shook his head, "Nah, I should be okay. This place doesn't seem as confusing as your other place." Waddling their way to the door, Chris placed his hand on the door handle and kissed his man one last time, "See you tonight. I love you." "I love you too." Jake replied as he waited for Chris to open the door. Passing through, Jake turned quickly and waved at his man before heading back down the corridor towards the front of the building. Chris slyly watched Jakes magnificent figure striding down the corridor, before Lana, who was bursting her way into his office, grabbed his attention. "Finally, you have a solo case." Lana commented proudly as she dumped the manila folder onto the desk. Turning quickly, Chris stared at Lana like a rabbit in the headlights. "I finally have my own case?!" "It's a failed robbery, 2 people are dead. You got a small team on their way there now." Lana replied as she headed out the door. Turning to look at Chris, she smiled, "Good luck." Picking up the file, Chris examined it before nervously heading towards the front of the building. Grabbing a set of keys from the receptionist, he then strutted towards one of the SUVs parked on the street and pressed the unlock button. Spotting the indicator lights flashing on the furthest vehicle, Chris trotted towards it and jumped behind the wheel. **** *** *** ******************** ******** ************* ***************** "Fucking traffic!" Chris grumbled as he finally pulled into his parking spot. Noticing neither of Jakes cars were in the parking spot next to his caused Chris to pout. "Damn you Jake." He muttered as he locked the doors and slowly headed up the stairs towards his apartment. Fumbling with the key for a moment in the dimming light, Chris finally inserted the key and unlocked the door. As he was exhausted from his busy afternoon, he leaned on the door and forcefully pushed it open. Almost immediately, Chris was greeted by the pleasant smell of chicken cooking in the oven along with Greek music emanating from the stereo. Throwing his keys, wallet and phone onto the small table, he slowly walked further into the apartment, coming into view of Jake. Throwing the cookbook onto the coffee table, Jake immediately jumped up and raced over to Chris, pulling him close to his body. "Welcome home." "I love how you keep saying that." Chris responded with a cheesy grin before his lips were brought to meet Jakes. Surrendering to the kiss, he moved his foot slightly, accidentally stepping on Jakes bare foot in the process. "Ouch!" Jake screamed as he lifted his foot up to rub his toes, "You hurted me!" Feeling an overwhelming feeling of remorse Chris quickly apologized as he pushed Jake back onto the couch and grabbed his injured foot. Gently rubbing the plantar surface of the foot in his hand, Chris gently soothed Jakes flattened foot before gently kissing the damaged big toe. "There," Chris whispered as he kissed the toe again, "All better?" Jake laughed at the feeling on his foot before finally admitting, "Yeah, much better. Thank you!" "Well that's good then," Chris replied, as he continued to massage Jakes foot muscles. Noticing the book on the couch, he enquired, "What's that you're looking at?" Grabbing the book and flicking it around to show Chris, Jake admitted, "Nothing really. I was just thumbing my way through it, found some interesting things." "Looks good." Chris responded as he applied slightly firmer pressure to his boyfriend's foot. "What's in the oven though, it doesn't smell like beef?" Pulling his foot away from Chris, Jake slid over on the couch and kissed him on the cheek, "It's a surprise, and you stink," He then playfully slapped Chris on the arm, "Go shower and then come back and tell me about your day." Rolling his eyes, Chris finally stood up. "Fine, you go back to being the housewife then." Watching Chris waddle his way into the bedroom, Jake closed the book and returned to the kitchen to check on the food once more. A short time later Chris emerged from the bedroom dressed in a blue striped shirt and a pair of faded jeans. "How's it going?" He enquired as he padded his way back over to Jakes arms. "About another 15 minutes I think." Jake replied, immediately drawing Chris into his arms. "How was your day?" Chris shrugged, "Alright I suppose, I still hate it there. But I got my own case, so that's a bonus." Resting his head into Jakes neck, he continued, "It's pretty horrible, plus I have to go down to San Diego tomorrow with blood samples to be analyzed." "That's pretty good," Jake whispered. "I'm proud of you." Continuing to nuzzle into Jakes neck, Chris sighed briefly and closed his eyes. He was absolutely exhausted from his first solo case, his first day back at work, and most significantly, from the extended travel time between home and the office. "I can't wait till the lab reopens." Chris sighed. "I think I'm going to run myself into the ground if I have to do this everyday." He finally conceded, "I'm beginning to hate my job." "Don't say that." Jake replied as he moved his free hand to gently stroke Chris' nose. "Give it a while. It might get better." After turning his head briefly to observe the oven, Jake enquired, "So why do you have to go to San Diego?" "I have to personally take the samples, whole chain of evidence thing." Chris responded, "It's going to be a hell of a drive, and I will probably be home really late. I need to go in the afternoon." Suddenly the timer on the oven began buzzing, causing Jake to slowly get up. "That sucks, but I guess I could go back to my place and pack tomorrow night." Continuing to pad his way towards the oven, he noticed Chris was following close behind. "So I won't see you tomorrow?" Chris asked in a saddened tone. "That kinda sucks." He then grabbed Jake around the waist once he had placed the tray on the counter. "I'll miss you." Making sure the tray wasn't going to burn the counter, Jake turned around and kissed Chris on the cheek, "Well, I need to do something to occupy myself, since you won't be around to amuse me." Chris smirked and replied, "I suppose I can accept that." After being shooed away by Jake, he padded his way to the refrigerator and surveyed the contents, searching for something to drink. Grabbing two bottles of Coca Cola, he kicked the door shut and headed towards the dining table. "Was that old Toyota gone from the parking spot I use?" Jake enquired as he grabbed the chicken pieces with an oversized spoon. Knowing he was not wanted anywhere near the kitchen when Jake was cooking, Chris sat down at the dining table, "You mean your parking spot?" "If you want to call it that." Jake blushed. "Well you're the only one that uses it, so it's your spot." Chris replied with a cheesy grin as he admired Jakes culinary skills. "In answer to your question, no there was no car there. I was thinking you weren't home or something." Sheepishly looking down at the table, Chris admitted, "I thought I was going to be stuck home alone tonight." Grabbing the plates and shuffling his way towards the table, Jake placed one in front of Chris, and on in front of his own seat before heading back to grab knives and forks for themselves. "I wouldn't do that to you, especially on your first day back at work." "That's sweet." Chris responded as Jake took his seat and immediately grasped his hand, admiring the ring once more. "I really do think that suits you." Jake whispered. Grabbing the fork with his free hand, he then began eating. Chris too, grabbed his fork and began to slowly pick at the chicken in front of him. Surprised by the taste, he looked up at Jake and commented, "This is great, as usual." Jake smirked, "Have I ever disappointed?" "Only once," Chris joked. "That vodka thing was a little extreme, but it wasn't horrible." "How rude!" Jake exclaimed as he pretended to pout. He then finished the rest of his meal in silence. Almost immediately, after he was finished, Jake sprang out of the dining chair and scuttled over to the sink before storming towards the couch and flopping down in the corner. Feeling enormous pangs of guilt from his hurtful comment, Chris quietly arose from his own chair and softly crept up behind Jakes head. Kneeling down on the ground, Chris moved his lips behind Jakes left ear and whispered, "Aw honey, I'm sorry." He then kissed the soft pinna. "You hurt my feelings," Jake pouted as he continued to stare at the television screen. Bouncing over the backrest, Chris immediately landed on Jakes lap. "I'm really sorry honey." Grabbing Jakes free hands, Chris pinned him in place before planting a kiss in the middle of Jakes forehead. "Will you forgive me?" Continuing to stare blankly ahead of him, Jake absorbed Chris' statement, but wasn't ready to forgive him just yet. Resorting to Plan B, Chris jumped off Jakes lap and padded his way around to the cupboard underneath the TV. Jake diverted his stare to what Chris was searching through the cupboard for something. As Chris suddenly jumped back up again, Jake returned to pouting and staring at the screen. "Got it," Chris muttered as he fumbled with something before closing the doors and heading back towards the couch with his hands behind his back. Sitting on the couch close to Jake, he kissed his shoulder and suddenly pulled his finger-puppet adorned hand into view. Jake tried to stifle his laughter as he watched Chris trying to apologize by used of giraffe and panda shaped puppets. "Rawr, I'm sowweee Jake." Chris continued in a playful and childlike tone. "We wuv your cooking don't we Mister Giwaffe." He then wiggled the finger bearing the giraffe puppet and acquired significantly lower voice, "Thaaaaaat's right. We all love your cooking." Unable to hide his smile any longer, he finally began to chuckle as he admired Chris trying to cheer him up. "You're such an idiot." "Rawr!" Chris replied before he looked down at the puppets. "We're all in consensus too, we all love you." "And I love you too." Jake sighed. Pulling the finger puppets off his fingers, held them up to Jakes shoulder, "Do you forgive us?" Jake smirked, "How can I say no to that adorable face?" Instead of pointing towards Chris, he instead pointed at the panda. "Hrmmf," Chris replied, "fine then." Immediately switching positions, Jake pushed Chris onto the couch and kissed him passionately. "Your face is even more adorable." Jake whispered as he finally pulled off Chris and moved himself back to his previous position on the couch. Taking a position on the opposite armrest to Jake, Chris brought his feet up next to Jakes body as Jake did the same. Grabbing the foot he had been massaging earlier, Chris immediately regained his task of massaging the soft sole while leaning his head against the armrest, staring at Jake the whole time. "What are you looking at?" Jake asked as he turned his attention from the television screen. He was liking the touch of Chris' hands massing his foot, and wasn't about to ask him to stop. Chris smiled shyly and replied, "I guess I still find it hard to believe my boyfriend is a movie star, and he would rather spend the night in with me, rather than go out partying." Jake smiled and ran his hands underneath Chris' jeans, wrapping both hands around his ankle and lightly stroking the soft hair. "Some things are more important I guess." Drawing his right hand down Chris' foot, he gently cupped the cold toes within his warm hands, "I guess I just want to be near you all the time, it doesn't matter where." Letting out a small snort, Chris closed his eyes and reveled in the mutual massage from Jake, "I don't know what I'm going to do while you're away." "I don't know either." Jake replied as he watched Chris drift off to sleep. Looking for the remote at his side, he picked it up and turned the volume down, allowing Chris to sleep with ease. Jake then began flicking through the various channels, settling on an old episode of CSI; Jake smiled and glanced over at his snoozing boyfriend. After the episode was finished, Jake switched the TV off, gently squeezed Chris' foot and sat up in the chair. Crawling himself over Chris' body, he swiftly brought his lips towards his mans and kissed him until Chris began to stir. "Why did you wake me?" Chris muttered in a sleepy tone as he opened one eye. Jake smiled and grasped Chris' hand, "To get you to come to bed." He then helped Chris up and dragged him to the bedroom. ----------------- Well that's it! The end! No, I'm joking. It's not.
