How I met Jake Chapter One The day was one of the hottest days in the past 10 years for Los Angeles. Luckily, it was also a Saturday, so many of the locals were relaxing and not as frantic as usual. It was also one of the only free days Jake Gyllenhaal had had to himself in the past few weeks, what with movie premieres and various appearances on talk shows. This Saturday would be the perfect kind of day for Jake to do some retail therapy on his own. Many of the fanboys and girls would be at home, and those that would be out would be too busy trying to keep cool. It was fairly late in the afternoon before Jake finally got his act together and headed towards Rodeo Drive. Once there he managed to find a parking spot on the street and headed down the sidewalk, trying to remain inconspicuous. It seemed to pay off, as only a few people recognized him in his dark blue jeans, Sketchers and blue striped long sleeve top. He wandered into a few stores before entering an electronics and music store called 'Helvetica'. He noticed, like the rest of the shopping area, the store was fairly deserted, he could only see one other customer at the register, with two shop assistants. In search of some new music, Jake ventured further into the store, making a bee-line towards the new release section. After taking note of the other customer leaving the store he continued his browsing, looking for some CD's he was still to purchase. Suddenly a bell rang, acknowledging the entrance of another paying customer, however Jake only managed a glance at the young man walking hastily towards the register, before once again returning to the shelving containing the latest albums. The search for the perfect album continued for about five minutes more before Jake took notice of the escalading conversation between the customer and the assistants. Putting the CD that he was viewing down, he began to motion over towards the counter to attempt to be a Good Samaritan. Suddenly the customer pulled out a weapon and fired three shots, one into the wall behind the counter, one into the shoulder of the female shop assistant and the third into the stomach of the male shop assistant, sending both assistants to the ground. Hearing and seeing the events that just took place in front of his face caused Jake to freeze in place. It was then the man with the gun turned and aimed the gun towards Jake. "You didn't see nuthin'" the gunman muttered towards Jake. Jake stood motionless as he the gunman began walking towards him. Suddenly the assailant made a rush towards the door, sending Jake crashing to the ground. And with that, the man was gone from the store. By the time Jake had managed to pick himself up from the floor, the police had rushed into the store followed by several paramedics. "Are you okay Sir?" enquired one of the paramedics noticing Jake was obviously shaken from the whole ordeal. Jake rubbed his shoulder which had hit the wooden floor in the incident and quietly replied, "I think I will be okay. I was just knocked down, that's all..." After being quickly checked over by the paramedic he was ushered towards the back of the store by one of the officers so as not to be within view of the growing crowd behind the police line outside. -------------------------- Chris always hated being dragged to crime scenes full of slack-jawed gawkers. He always preferred to be on cases that were fairly low key, as performing his duty with others peering through, watching his every move. As this was a scene on Rodeo Drive he figured this would be slightly worse than ever. Along with the rest of the team, he pulled up in his work SUV and zigzagged his way in between the spectators outside. Approaching the police tape he flashed his badge to the officer guarding the line. Once he was cleared he made his way into the store and was greeted by his co-worker and investigator in charge of the case, CSI Lana Carter. "Hey Lana, what's the deal here?" Chris enquired. Lana looked up from the camera she had been using to take photos of the crime scene, "Well, it looks like we got a case of a disgruntled employee." "Oh yeah, I see," Chris replied, taking note that the register was open, yet still contained a large amount of cash. "Victims?" "One dead, male shop assistant, name of Derek Jones..." She then flipped back through her notepad to find the other victims name, "..and we have two survivors, one has been taken to hospital, name of Alison Myko, but Evan has gone with her." She then looked towards the back of the store, "There's one witness, he was knocked down during the escape, so we need to collect some evidence off him. He's at the back, name of Jake something. Could you go collect some evidence off him, then you can head home for the weekend, we got it covered and I know you need some time off to deal with Danny." "Okay, thankyou Lana. I'll collect the evidence and then take it back to the lab." Chris replied. He then picked up his evidence case and headed towards the group of people mingling in the back of the store. As he got closer the two officers talking with the witness began to walk away, leaving Chris with a truly amazing sight, possibly one of the best looking people he had seen since his ex boyfriend Danny Foster. After graduating from university Chris worked in Australia for 6 months before finally accepting a job at a research lab in Los Angeles. It was there Chris met Danny. Danny's architecture firm was located near the lab and the two met one day during a lunch break. >From there a relationship had blossomed for close to three years, the couple even purchased an apartment together, which was designed by Danny and located downtown Hollywood. The relationship seemed perfect but in the last 6 weeks there had been some major changes, a decline in the relationship combined with the necessity for Danny to relocate his firm to Manhattan culminated in the couple finally parting ways. Luckily for Chris, it was an amicable split, with Chris agreeing to purchase the other half of property and a civil relationship afterwards. "Hi there, my name's Christopher Salter, I'm going to have to collect some evidence from you if that's okay?" Chris enquired with a smile, trying to figure out where he had seen these beaming blue eyes before. Jake slowly shifted his weight to his other foot, while still holding his shoulder, he looked over to the strange man talking to him, "Uh yeah, sure....that's okay, what do I need to do?" Chris could see that this individual was obviously uneasy with what had occurred not more than half an hour beforehand, trying to ease the tension Chris picked up some tape from his kit, "Well firstly, I'm going to need to use this tape on your shirt, that way we can collect any hairs or other fibres which may be on the shirt." Chris peeled the tape back and gently placed it onto the shirt, taking note of the firm chest beneath it. "My name's Jake by the way, Jake Gyllenhaal." Chris smiled, "Nice to meet you Jake, it would have been good to meet you under different circumstances.." With that comment Jake chuckled and allowed Chris to complete the process of collecting the evidence from Jake's clothing. Once he was finished Chris informed Jake that he would have to collect his shirt and jeans for processing. Jake agreed and Chris lead Jake around a corner, so as he would be further out of view from those outside and those inside. Realising this would then leave Jake in his underwear he quickly went to fetch a pair of pants and a spare CSI jacket from the SUV, he swiftly returned and allowed Jake to change clothing, while collecting the evidence for analysis. "Have you given your statement yet?" Chris enquired. "I spoke to the officers over there," Jake pointed, "but I don't think they took anything down, it looks like they were more concerned with keeping me away from the front." "Yeah, I suppose the last thing you and we would need is to have the story blown out of all proportion." Replied Chris as he zipped up the last bag of evidence and added it to the pile of evidence bags. "I'm heading back to the lab right now, so we can probably get you back there and get your interview over with before the media catch wind of this." "That sounds great, I really just want to get out of this place, I'm still a little shaken up by the whole ordeal..." Jake replied as Chris handed him a hat to disguise his appearance and make it seem as though Jake was part of the team. Once they made it outside Chris lead Jake towards the awaiting car. He opened the door for Jake and then made his way towards the rear door to place the evidence bags in a container for moving the materials safely. Once stowed away properly he shut the door and then made his way over to the drivers' side. Chris then started up the SUV and headed back towards the lab. -Stay tuned for Chapter Two- Well, I hope you enjoyed my dabble into slash fiction.
